Left Unsaid

When two young co-parents meet to trade-off their daughter, nostalgic feelings flair.

Left Unsaid began as an idea I had while driving on the highway; it went, “something, something, little baby in a car seat, and something, something, parents meet up and there’s a love letter between the two involved”.

It grew into a short story about the ebb-and-flow of yearning for someone and something you no longer have but aren’t brave enough to get back.

It’s the story of Myles and Precious — two young lovers who never quite got it right but share a baby girl.

In my adolescent days, I was that child. Too young to know any different when my parents split, but old enough to vividly recall being picked up by dad every Friday night and dropped off on Sunday afternoons at my grandma's church or at my mama’s house.

But while that’s where the similarities between my life and the film end, those experiences provided me a window into the small and intimate story I wanted to depict on-screen.

This film dances between humor, drama, and romantic tones. This was rooted in a desire to communicate the essence of the former couple’s relationship, both in the past and in the present, and showcase the duality that can exist with those we care for.

While the story is special to me because I’ve lived it, my goal is that folks walk away reminded of what it can cost us when we don’t say what’s on our hearts.
